Two of Britain’s most successful entrepreneurs have thrown their weight behind this year’s Monmouthshire Business Awards.
Gurpareet Bains, the TV chef and bestselling author, and entrepreneur David Jamilly, a party planner to the stars and star of Channel 4’s ‘Secret Millionaire’, have this week been announced as the Awards’ celebrity judges.
The pair – regular faces on TV and radio – will form the panel on the Judges’ Choice Award, a prestigious new category introduced in 2013.
Speaking yesterday from his home in London, Bains, who counts Chris Evans, Vivienne Westwood and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester as fans, said Monmouthshire was home to a “formidable array of exceptional businesses”.
The pioneer of ‘Indian Superfood’ said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be involved in this year’s Monmouthshire Business Awards.
“It’s clear from last year’s entries that Monmouthshire is home to a formidable array of exceptional businesses, and I am very much looking forward to seeing what this year’s entrants have achieved.”
Jamilly is the owner of Theme Traders, an events company which has orchestrated some of the UK’s biggest and most lavish parties in recent years.
The author of ‘Party People’ and ‘The Creative Approach to Events’, who gave away £75,000 of his own money on Secret Millionaire, added: “It is an honour to be involved in such a prestigious awards scheme. I’m very excited to be the on the panel for this year’s judges choice award.”
Bains and Jamilly will replace last year’s celebrity judges Sylvia Marshall, the Daily Mirror columnist, and Jasmine Birtles, the journalist and founder of Money Magpie.
Awards organiser Janet Harris said a new panel of celebrities has already been identified for 2015.
The winner of the Judges’ Choice Award goes to the best entrant overall and is presented to one of the shortlisted finalists.
“The Judges’ Choice Award is a prestigious category and warrants fierce competition among entrants,” Harris said.
“It goes without saying that we are delighted that Gurpareet Bains and David Jamilly have agreed to sit on the panel. We have no doubt whatsoever that they will have their work cut out agreeing on a single overall winner.”
