Severn Quay, the "Chelsea Harbour" of south Wales and dubbed the ‘most fashionable address in the west’, is opening its doors to the public for the first time this week.
Residents and local businesses are being invited to take a “sneak peek” inside the £40million development on Chepstow’s historic riverside.
Visitors – which are set to include representatives of many of South Wales’ largest companies – will receive Champagne on arrival and a personal tour of one of the new luxury townhouses.
Organisers say the Open Days on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th July will give guests a flavour of how the development is transforming Chepstow’s neglected waterfront.
Jayne Bennett, Severn Quay’s sales manager, said: “The Open Day has been an eagerly-anticipated event since construction work first began here in 2011.
“It will give people the chance to get a sneak peek inside one of the recently-completed mews properties, and will also showcase our efforts towards giving this once-rundown area of the town a long-awaited facelift.”
A total of 56 houses, 113 apartments and eight office units will nestle on the 2.4 hectare site– once home to a number of decrepit and derelict buildings.
As part of the scheme, a promenade and look-out deck over the River Wye will be created. Provision has also been made for a play area and a courtyard and lawn which will be open to the public.
Phase one of the building works – a row of townhouses near Picton House – was this week nearing completion.
David Davies MP yesterday hailed the development as an “unprecedented success”, and said it is set to be a “striking landmark to be proud of”.
Estate agents say it will resemble a mini Chelsea Harbour, and will soon become one of the most sought-after postcodes in the South West.
Celebrity interest in its luxury penthouses is also fuelling a “rising trajectory for Chepstow house prices”, Tom Hood, the managing partner of estate agents Hydes, said.
Last year it was reported that Severn Quay could spark a local house price boom, pushing average values up by as much as 15 per cent by 2017.
Peter Mills, Severn Quay’s development director, said: “We are very much looking forward to the Open Day, and to meeting the people who count the most in this project – the public.”
The Severn Quay Open Day takes place between 10am and 4pm at Severn Quay’s marketing suite on Lower Church Road. To find out more about the Open Day, call Severn Quay on 01291 418061.
