Coronation Street may have won most awards, but of all the soaps scooped complimentary goodies from AudioGO this weekend.
Copies of The Great Gatsby audiobook were given to all 730 audience members, VIPs and show presenters. The gifts were donated by AudioGO because this year’s Awards had a Great Gatsby theme.
Anthony Harvison, who handles the AudioGO account and secured the sponsorship, said: “We’re delighted that AudioGO’s The Great Gatsby was so well received.”
The Awards, hosted by Phillip Schofield, saw Corrie scoop eight out-of-16 awards including Best Soap. It also proved a hit with fans, taking home three out-of-five of the public-voted awards.
Eastenders, on the other hand, left the ceremony in Manchester empty handed, The Independent reports today.
But Adam Woodyatt, who has played Ian Beale since the soap began, received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Actor Malcolm Hebden, who plays Norris Cole, accepted the Best Soap award on behalf of Coronation Street.
Flanked by his co-stars, he joked: “I’m not really sure why I’ve been chosen to accept this award. I was hoping for Sexiest Male but you take what you can get.
“And I don’t see what’s funny about that!
“But we’re all thrilled and the public have voted for us so we must be doing our job properly. Thank you the public. We love you!”
Corrie beauty Michelle Keegan was voted Sexiest Female for the fifth time in a row. “I can’t believe it. This is ridiculous. I’m going to get this out in 50 years and be the coolest gran ever,” she laughed.
