Independent Bookshop Week 2019 will take place next month, with a plethora of special events being planned to mark the annual event.
Running from June 15-22, the week-long celebration will include a number of author tours across the UK, as well as book shop window displays by noted illustrators, limited edition and early book releases exclusively for indie book stores.
Authors supporting the event with personal appearances at book shops include Jo Brand, promoting Born Lippy; Catherine Bruton (No Ballet Shoes in Syria); Shane Hegarty (Boot); and poet Joseph Coelho. Illustrators including Sabina Radeva, Sarah Horne, Emily Haworth-Booth and Guy Parker Rees, meanwhile, will create illustrated display windows.
Publisher Faber will be releasing exclusive early editions including The Bookshop of the Broken Hearted by Robert Hillman, while Macmillan is publishing Poems to Keep in Your Pocket, which will feature a selection of classic poems from the Macmillan Collector’s Library, for independent stores to give away to customers.
The Independent Bookshop week has run each year since 2006, and has been credited with helping revive the fortunes of indie bookshops. A total of 442 shops across the UK and Ireland will be participating in 2019.
