Top Gear director Brian Klein hits the airways to promote his debut novel, The Counterfeit Candidate
There’s been numerous radio interviews this month for BAFTA-award winning director Brian Klein to promote his debut novel, The Counterfeit Candidate.
Mr Klein has directed BBC flagship show Top Gear for almost 20 years in total and is currently filming the 31st and latest season with presenters Chris Harris, Paddy McGuinness and Freddie Flintoff.
He is also the long-running director of Sky Max’s A League of Their Own Road Trip with Jack Whitehall, Jamie Redknapp and Freddie Flintoff. His directing credits also include two seasons of The Grand Tour and a string of shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime, BBC and Sky.
Mr Klein spoke with more than a dozen BBC radio stations about his career, sharing many insider secrets involving best friend Jeremy Clarkson, former co-presenters James May and Richard Hammond, and A-list guests including Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
He also discussed his debut book, political thriller The Counterfeit Candidate, which is published by Spirit Entertainment.
Speaking with stations including BBC Radio Leeds, Shropshire, Devon, Cambridge, Lancashire and Kent, he revealed how he came to write the book when his busy filming schedule instantly cleared last March when the Covid pandemic struck and the UK went into lockdown.
Based on an idea that “had been buried inside my head for over forty years”, Mr Klein completed the novel in just 12 weeks.
It has since been hailed as an “instant classic” and has become an Amazon bestseller.
