Sir Ranulph Fiennes will today urge British businesses to support Ben Hooper’s charitable expedition to swim across the Atlantic Ocean.

The explorer will ask firms to “dig deep” and throw their financial weight behind what he describes as “one of the last great bastions of exploration to remain unconquered”.

Sir Ranulph is patron of the “Swim the Big Blue” expedition, which will see Hooper swim 2,000 miles between Dakar in Senegal and Natal in northern Brazil.

If he completes the 100-day journey, Hooper will become the first person to successfully swim across an entire ocean.
