Lynda Berger, the critically-acclaimed children’s book author, appointed Palamedes PR for a book PR campaign in late 2014. Specifically, Ms Berger required our support to promote Demons and Thieves, a book that tackles some of the most difficult aspects of childhood, including bullying. It also includes positive messages about how to deal with common teenage issues.
We do not normally represent fiction, however the book was as much a learning aid as a novel; it had already been introduced into Key Stage 3 reading lists in schools across the country.
The book was launched during Anti-Bullying Week and was accompanied by a pop song, ‘Take a Look At Yourself’, which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and produced by Rob Cass, whose clients include Robbie Williams, Estelle and Will Young.
We concentrated our efforts on three core areas: generating book reviews, newspaper (online and print) coverage, and radio/broadcast interviews. This was achieved through a variety of editorial products, and by calling upon former colleagues within the wider UK media for support.
The Consultancy secured widespread publicity for the book and the pop song across print, digital (including social media platforms) and broadcast platforms within four weeks of appointment. Coverage continued for a further six weeks and successfully brought both the book and the song to the fore. Crucially, the publicity we generated enabled Ms Berger to disseminate her powerful anti-bullying message to key audiences that included young adults, parents and teachers nationwide.
Coverage and reviews were variously obtained for Ms Berger on: UK Mums TV, Woman Magazine, What’s Good To Do, Daily Telegraph Facebook Page, Book Angel (Booktopia), Bergers Book Reviews, Lovereading.co.uk, FeaturesExec, The Argus, Redhill and Reigate Life, Woking News and Mail (print and online), SWNS.com, Brooklands Radio, Guardian Children’s Books (Twitter), Elmbridge Comet, and others.
“I have worked with Palamedes PR in the past and with great success. As such, I wanted to re-employ the best book PR firm that I could.”
Lynda Berger, author of Demons and Thieves
This book carried a powerful message that had the real potential of helping young people cope with – and overcome – bullies. As such, we are proud to have been involved in its promotion and trust it will be incorporated into more Key Stage 3 reading lists in coming months.
